Invited Speaker: Justin Bullock, MD, MPH.
Bio: Justin Bullock is an Assistant Professor in Nephrology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and the Co-director of the Docs with Disabilities Initiative. His primary research centers on how educators can foster identity safety in the learning environment, where all members of the healthcare team can be their authentic selves in the workplace.
Description: In this talk, Justin Bullock will explore his dual identities as a physician and a bipolar person practicing medicine with mental illness. He will share his journey through medical training from diagnosis in medical school to unsupervised practice. This session will integrate the medical and social models of disability, ableism, disability justice, advocacy, and education research. The purpose of this talk is to encourage help-seeking behaviors among ourselves and our colleagues.

- Describe the role of medical regulation in the medical profession.
- Discuss the barriers to health care providers disclosing their mental illness to their employer and receiving mental health care.
- Analyze how identity safety influences learning and professional environments in healthcare, including its impact on individuals with disabilities and mental health conditions.
- Compare the medical and social models of disability and evaluate their implications for reducing ableism and promoting inclusive practices in healthcare education and practice.
