Virtual Session

Session Description:
In this virtual training session, participants will be introduced to the essentials of NVivo, a software tool designed for qualitative data management and analysis analysis. Tailored for both newcomers and those with a basic understanding of NVivo, this workshop kicks off with an introduction of GW’s Virtual Computer Lab, access to NVivo, and a brief overview of NVivo's user interface.

The core of the training is dedicated to exploring NVivo's powerful coding tools. Participants will learn how to organize their data by creating codes, memos, and annotations - steps that help transform raw data into structured insights. Through this session, participants will discover how to assign codes to text segments, enabling them to sift through vast amounts of qualitative data efficiently.

The session will conclude with a brief overview of NVivo’s data query and visualization tools as well as the program’s embedded concept mapping and mind mapping mechanisms.

By the end of the workshop, attendees are equipped with the knowledge to navigate NVivo confidently, setting a strong foundation for future research work using a well-established and powerful tool.

Learning Objectives:
1.    Familiarize with the resources available through GW’s Virtual Computer Lab;
2.    Discuss the purpose of employing software for qualitative data analysis;
3.    Utilize NVivo 14 to support qualitative data management and analysis;
4.    Identify various resources available to provide additional NVivo training.
